Laurel's Kitchen Caring: Recipes for Everyday Home Care Giving, is a gem. If you know someone who is suffering, this book is full of simple, cheery foods and ideas (by Laurel Robertson) to comfort and nourish them. If you are in need of a little TLC, perhaps your caregiver would appreciate these recipes and suggestions.
It's been a few years since I read it cover to cover, but I continue to use her ideas: if a loved one has a cold, whet their appetite with a peeled and segmented orange laid out on a tiny plate like the rays of the sun. Put a tiny pile of powdered sugar in the middle. Who wouldn't feel cheered by that? Or for a loved one with the flu and experiencing chills, how about tossing their favorite blanket (or a sleeping bag) and pillow in the dryer until they're warm, then wrap the warmth around your chilly friend.
It is, sadly, out of print but can be bought used here.
