"Call someone you haven't talked with for over a year." That is what a checker (an older gentleman) said to me the other day when he was handing me my receipt at the art frame shop. It was after a long string of "will that be all?...do you have any coupons?...could you please sign the receipt?...........call someone you haven't talked with for over a year." So, I didn't hear it correctly at first.
It sure got me thinking. It takes work to stay connected with friends and family. When times get tough it feels even harder to stay connected, even though that is one of the things that can help us the most. A good friend and I once commented to each other, "Why don't we call each other when we're having a really rough day?" I told her, "It's the last thing I feel like doing on those days!" We vowed to call each other on those occasional bad days, but it isn't always easy. Only worth it.
I came home and called some people I hadn't talked with for a while. Just a good old fashioned phone call. It was wonderful!
