Ben Featherstone sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir this week. Profoundly deaf since birth, 17-year-old Ben received cochlear implants recently, which have allowed him to hear sound for the first time in his life. What did Ben want to do? He wanted to sing with the biggest and most famous choir in the world.
It was such a thrill to see him in the middle of the Tabernacle Choir's bass section, singing and signing. He had practiced many of the songs for months leading up to this event ~ his dream come true. Mack Wilberg, famed conductor of the choir stopped after several songs, and paid a beautiful tribute to Ben. A standing ovation erupted, by the entire choir, as soon as Mack Wilberg was done.
Sometimes you feel so happy for another person's joy that you feel as if you are going to burst. That's how we felt for Ben last night. I will never forget the look of love on his parents faces as they watched him in the choir. I've known Ben since he was born, and after God made Ben He broke the mold. I've never met anyone like him. He is a very, very special soul.
