MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) is a common, but less familiar, autoimmune illness. Do you avoid perfumes? Are you sensitive to other chemicals like new carpet/new car fumes? Exhaust fumes? House cleaning products? Hairspray? Aerosol sunscreens? Pesticides? Tap water? There is hope for anyone who suffers from the symptoms of MCS. Debra Lynn Dadd has written many books and has a very helpful website, all for the purpose of helping people recover from MCS. The New York Times calls Debra, "The Queen of Green". She promotes and educates about lifestyle choices that are safer for human health and the environment. She is the author of Home Safe Home. Debra offers a LOT of helpful advice to those of us recovering from MCS.
MCS can severely affect quality of life. I have had many experiences where I had to avoid being in locations that would have made me feel very ill (even though most people wouldn't notice or feel any adverse affects from the level of chemical exposure in the room, like perfumes, paint fumes, exhaust fumes, etc). One embarrassing experience I had was
Hopefully you've seen the movie comedy called, "What About Bob?". Richard Dreyfuss plays the character, Doctor Leo Marvin, who tells Bill Murray (Bob) to take a vacation from his problems. He writes down, "Take a vacation from your problems" on a doctor's prescription pad of paper and orders Bob to do it.
Do you ever feel like you need a vacation from your problems? When is the last time you've taken a vacation from your problems? Perhaps your vacation will be as simple as playing a game of solitaire by yourself, having people over for dinner for a change, going on a walk or calling someone to go see a movie if you don't normally do that. I don't think a vacation has to cost a lot ~ or anything at all. It just needs to be something wholesome that you don't normally do. Something to get you outside of yourself.
So, if Dr. Leo Marvin were here and told you to TAKE A VACATION FROM YOUR PROBLEMS, would you do it? Try it.
Your brain, spirit and body (and family or friends!) will thank you.
